Meet Our Founders
Amy & Matt Lutz
Amy is not only a co-founder, but she’s Colby & Cate’s mom too! When not cleaning teeth for her favorite dentist, Dr. Julie Stante or advocating for the American Lung Association, Amy is one of the two major creative forces behind Colby & Cate’s Charities. Amy’s background in interior design comes through with both design concepts shared with our graphic designer as well as the decorations at our events. Amy is also the volunteer coordinator for our events – including the Birthday Bash – which alone has nearly 140 volunteer slots!
Matt is Colby & Cate’s dad. When not helping clients buy and sell homes, Matt runs the business side of Colby & Cate’s Charities serving many roles. From Chairman of the Board to janitor and everything in between. President. Treasurer. Executive Director. Sponsorship. Auction. You name it. But fortunately, he is building a great team of Directors and Committee leaders who are helping relieve some of the responsibilities as the organization and the services provided directly by the organization grow!
Meet Our Board of Directors
(In Alphabetical Order)
Jerry Adams: Vice President & Director.
District Manager for Legends Hospitality, Jerry currently oversees venues such as Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in Indiana and the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis. Jerry joined our Board as a director in 2014 after being introduced to our organization in 2013. Jerry was re-elected in 2017, this time to a 3 year term. At the same time, Jerry was also elected Vice President. Jerry has a decades long background in both the hospitality industries. You may know Jerry from or have seen him overseeing other venues such as Banker’s Life Fieldhouse and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jerry also brings a wealth of experience from his leadership positions with other non-profit organizations such as Second Helpings and Boy Scouts of Indiana. Jerry’s passion for kids led him to Colby & Cate’s Charities.
Eric Barker: Director: 2017- Present
Eric is a pharmacist and is the Regional Director of Pharmacy Services at True RX Management Services; Eric’s clinical background is in hospital pharmacy. A long-time supporter of our organization, Eric approached us in 2016 with interest in being more than a supporter. Eric was elected to our Board of Directors in 2017 and brings long term vision, organizational structure and strategic planning to the board of Colby and Cate’s Charities, Inc.
Kurt Cohen: Director 2014-Present
A co-owner of Arni’s Restaurants, Kurt joined Colby & Cate’s Charities as a Board Member in 2015 after being involved as a donor and sponsor for several years. Through Arni’s, Kurt provides auction items, lunch for approximately 600, appetizers and entrees for 300+ and pizza as a late night snack for the Birthday Bash. This is on top of the contributions he and Arni’s have made to our organizations and many others children’s charities, including Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, of which Kurt also serves as a Board Member. We are extremely grateful that Arnis remains a major sponsor to this day.
Dr. Scott Himelstein: Director 2012 – Present
An anesthesiologist with the Northside Anesthesia Services, Scott has served on the Board longer than anyone (not named Lutz). This is Scott’s first non-profit experience and we’re not wanting to share him with anyone else! Selfish? Admittedly, yes. Scott, on the other hand, in a complete display of his selflessness and dedication to helping chronically and critically ill or injured children, knowingly and willingly joined a charitable organization, which for its first decade was exclusively raising funds for its competition – as Scott’s medical practice is affiliated with St. Vincent Hospital. Fortunately, while we may not share Scott, we do share the love and now support Peyton Manning Children Hospital at St. Vincent as well as other organizations and patients too!
Jeanne Lewis: Director and Secretary
Of all of our volunteers, Jeanne has been with the organization longer than anyone! Jeanne began volunteering as our Graphic Designer way back in 2007 for the 5th Birthday Bash. It wasn’t even a bash back then! Since then, virtually every tee shirt, banner, invitation, thank you card, our logo and every print item in between has Jeanne’s design skills behind it. When she’s not saving us thousands of dollars by doing all of the graphic design work for Colby & Cate’s Charities or freelancing for others, St. Jeanne can be found at her church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she serves as their graphic designer. Jeanne began serving as our Secretary in 2014 and most recently was asked to join the Board and elected as a Director in the fall of 2017.
Agnes Schade: Director 2017- Present
A Continuous Improvement Lead at The Capital Group, and a volunteer at the United Way, Agnes and her family have been supporting our organization for several years. Like fellow Director Eric, Agnes also approached in 2016 and inquired about getting on a more involved at a more significant level. However, Agnes was very clear about her goals. She wanted more than to volunteer at and attend events, board meetings and provide financial support. She sought a role with larger purpose and she wanted to know if our organization might be able to create one. Little did she know that we’d had one we could not fill for a few years! Agnes is not only a Director, but as you’ll see on our Junior Board page, Agnes is the Senior Advisor to our Junior Board. We could not be happier with our selection. Or, um, shall I say, Agnes’s selection of Colby & Cate’s Charities!
Joel Tragesser: Director, 2018- Present:
Joel and his wife Kirsten share a passion for groups supporting children’s health in memory of Kirsten’s late daughter Maddie. As a result of Joel’s work in the community and as a trademark attorney for Quarles & Brady, the Indianapolis Bar Association recognized Joel with its Professionalism Award in March 2018. Joel looks forward to working with Kirsten, who volunteers as a grant writer, as well as the directors of Colby & Cate’s Charities in Making Ordinary EXTRAORDINARY for children like Maddie.
